Ephemeral Films

Ephemeral films are non-fiction films usually made for educational, industrial, or promotional purposes. The two classic ephemeral film collections found on the Archive are the Prelinger Archives and AV Geeks.

In addition to these classic collections, you may view guidance films from the post-World War II British government, drive-in movie intermission ads, and videos documenting the history of San Francisco from 1906 to the early 21st Century. Many of these films are available for free download.

This film was made to instruct police officers on the basics of childbirth and to show them an actual birth - mostly so they wouldn't panic or pass out when confronted with such a scenario. WARNING! The poor acting by actual police officers and doctors and low production values in this film make the live birth scene even more shocking than others from this genre. In hopes of keeping kids' attention, social engineering films would often use supernatural elements to make their points. In this film, we see a magic talking mirror that reflects bratty kids as clowns. Most of the misbehaving kids understand how their behavior is disruptive and make amends. Surprisingly, one kid doesnt care if he is a "clown" and continues being a jerk probably for the rest of his life. To license this film and get a higher quality version for broadcast/film...

Made for home economics class, this is a primer on sensible food shopping. We learn to read canned food labels and get a glimpse at the mysterious grading system for various foods (and may understand why food grades are no longer advertised unless they are Grade A). Many of this films messages are still poignant today, especially since supermarkets are designed to encourage impulse buying. This cautionary tale was aimed towards young, thrill-seeking teens. The exciting car chase at the end of the film may have glamorized joy-riding to students more than actually demonize it. If nothing else, the film reveals the primary perpetrator of auto thefts - bored, horny boys. To license this film and get a higher quality version for broadcast/film purposes, contact A/V Geeks LLC.

On the surface, this film may seem like an average science film about time and space, but like most of films from the Moody Institute of Science, there is an ulterior motive. The films host Irwin Moon had an interest in science as a child and later incorporated that interest into his life as a pastor. He would tour the country giving his Sermons of Science where the marvels of science provide the visible evidence of a Divine plan of creation. His work with GIs during World War II showed him the...
